Jesus the Prophet?

Matthew 21: 8-11

A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,

“Hosanna to the Son of David!”

“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”

“Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?”

The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”

Wow.  Isn’t that quite the story?  Jesus Christ rides into town.  Crowds of people literally worship Him.  Palm branches are everywhere.  And there is lot of commotion.

There is so much commotion, in fact, that the rest of the city comes to ask who is worthy of such worship.

“This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee,” the crowd responds.

Jesus the prophet?  This isn’t how I remember Him today.

He is Jesus the Christ.  The Savior of the universe!  God Almighty in the flesh!

To me this means something significant.

Jesus can be standing right in front of me and I might not even notice that He is who He says He is.  I might not acknowledge Him as…The Christ.

So my questions this week are these:

Where has Jesus been this week that I haven’t noticed?  Has he stood right in front of me when I wasn’t paying attention?  Have I worshipped Him, but not acknowledge Him for who He really is?  Did I drive by him in my car?  Did I pass him on the street?  Was He down on His luck?  Did He smell?  Did we make eye contact?

Was I too distracted, uncomfortable, or proud to notice Him, to see Him as more than a prophet or a person?  Was I too mistaken to see Him as who He says He is, Almighty God, the least of these?

These are my thoughts.  I hope we all get to see Jesus soon.
